Progress - Slow but Sure

Hi Peoples,
I know it looks like nothing is happening around this site and partially that's right.
Mainly, as mentioned before, I had to get back to basics a bit after my long break and I'm trying real hard to take things slowly instead of rushing ahead of myself and getting myself lost in a huge mess of code.
I have been silently and slowly learning quite a few things behind the scenes, playing around with stuff that won't get published anywhere though some of my own scripts will definately be based on a lot of the stuff I've been learning.
As well as that though, I have also been working on two other private projects, one being a personal site for somebody special and the other being something I was sort of commissioned to which started off as a small and simple idea and is rapidly turning into a rather large, very marketable piece of software.
Details of both these projects will be kept under wraps from the general public although once I have finished with the latter of the two I'll be making that available.
Anyways, this was just a quick note to my loyal fans out there in cyberspace, I know there's a few of you who have kept coming back for a number of years to check up on what i'm doing with the site, I do appreciate it and I do appreciate the feedback some of you have given me on past projects.
Please do keep checking back now and then, I can't wait to get this site pumping properly and I will eventually, but I do need some cash folw so gotta prioritise the marketable projects .

Site Undergoing Overhaul

Well, I'm embarking on a brand new adventure in the world of PHP programming. Thinking my next project will be something like a forum type site.
First things first though, after a couple of years of not doing any web design or programming, gotta revise some PHP basics, bring myself up to date with PHP5, try and learn some advanced stuff. Also need to brush up on my CSS a bit.
Basically that means I'll be doing unseen stuff for a while though what you are looking at is a rough bang up job of the layout i'm working on for it.
Watch this space for future developments.

To The Dedicated Players of Nesperion's Realm

After my long hiatus from coding, I've finally decided to lay Nesperion's Realm to rest.
Many appologies to all those who enjoyed the game and to those who were waiting for the new game.
As some of you were aware, I was planning on woring on a new version of the game which would replace the old one and I was planning on keeping the old one running without any updates while working on the new one.
Unfortunately I got too busy offline over the last couple of years to do any work on iether version. Now that I'm back I've decided I'm going to work on a new project. I'm still working out the details of what that project will be exactly but it won't be a game.
Due to limited funds, costs of hosting and bandwidth, I decided to take the game offline to free up space for my new project.
I would like to say thank you to all the people who did play the game, thanks for all of your feedback and support during the lifetime of Nesperion's Realm. I never really advertised it, mainly on purpose, being a hobby only for me, I tried to keep bandwidth to a minimum so only a few select people were invited to play however it was open to anybody and in the end my player base consisted of over 250 players. I have no idea where all you all came from, but thanks for stopping by to check it out.
I may consider making another game in very distant future, but it won't be for a very very long time and I'm not making any promises.
I may also consider making my code for Nesperion's Realm open source, but if I do it probably won't be for a while. Watch this space if you are interested though.

For Those Who Don't Know

Nesperion's Realm was an online, text based, multiplayer game which I built from the ground up as hobby project with the main purpose being to teach myself PHP and MySql.
Basically the game consisted of a large grid of squares representing land. Players had a main character with typical D&D style stats to raise as they gained experience points. They could move move about from square to square in the grid, fighting various monsters, collecting gold and equipment to use or sell as they went.
Each square of land could settled by a player who could then fortify that land with defensive armies and walls. They could build a town on that land with various facilities such as banks, temples, shops, taverns ect.... all of which produced revenue for the owner of the land when other players utilised them.
For a player to expand thier territory they could build an army of knights and catapults to lay siege on other players land and take it over.
The interface included a live chat with smilies and private messaging between players.
The whole game wasn't too impressive to look at but I wasn't concerned with looks, my main aim was to program something that worked. Well it did work, at least for the most part. Sure it had plenty of bugs and plenty of vulnerabilities which some players could abuse and cheat with, and my code was very messy and very far from perfect.
All in all though, I think I did a pretty good job of it considering it was my first attempt at programming anything. It was definately a challenge and definately a very complex thing for a beginner programmer but I did learn a lot from making it. So much in fact that I had decided some time ago that I was rewrite the whole script from the ground up as a totally new version of the game and scrap my old script all together.
As things turned out, I got quite busy offline and didn't touch it or any other code for a couple of years.
